Italy – Tuscany – Florence hills. “Il Paretaio” is a splendid antique farmhouse located only 25km away from Florence, in the municipality of Pelago, loc. Paterno, at the edges of the Vallombrosa Forest. The farmhouse “Il Paretaio” is surrounded by 15ha of private land, completely fenced, in which we find, on in front of the other, the antique country house and a recently restored barn. Since the beginning of the eleventh century the farmhouse belonged to the Congregation of the Monks of Vallombrosa, which enlarged their properties during the years until they owned the entire district of Paterno. The Monks kept the property until the beginning of the nineteenth century. Traces of their presence could be noticed in the oldest part of the house: in the olive oil storage room, in a large wood oven, in the room currently used as common room and in a small Madonna statue set in a recess.
The main living unit is set in the oldest part of the building and consists of kitchen/living room with majestic exposed wooden beams, 3 bedrooms, sitting room, two bathrooms and a small utility room. In the basement level we find the cellars, the olive oil storage room, a large area used for the drying of the grapes with “Vinsantaia” and several storages. There is also a large antique barn with part of the original cotto pavements and majestic exposed beams.
The country house also hosts a second apartment of 190sqm on two levels, completely restored preserving the original layout, atmosphere and history of the building. Wide and spacious, this apartment is currently used as residence for large families or groups of friends.
The barn, set in the farmyard in front of the main farmhouse, has been restored and currently hosts three apartments, two of 45/50sqm and one of 60sqm, all with independent access at ground floor, independent bedroom with bathroom for disabled persons. State of repair

The restorations carried out during the years preserved all the typical elements of the Tuscan farmhouses, like cotto pavements, wooden beams and splendid stone walls.
