Wonderful property of historical importance. The original Etruscan temple on this site is estimated to have been built around 750 BC. The current church was built from 8th century ruins and grew with the community until the 15th century. The church is dedicated to the 4th century Archbishop San Flaviano of Constantinople and was used as a resting place for pilgrims on the route to Assisi. The frescoes above and around the altar area are from the 14th century and have been restored where possible. There are beautiful watercolors of San Flaviano, St. Thomas and St. Anthony along with cherubs and angels playing and singing. The church served the community until it closed in 1972 when it was deconsecrated. It reopened its doors in 2014 as a non-denominational spiritual center, caring for those who also want to bring the pilgrimage to the essentials through a physical, emotional and spiritual pilgrimage. The rest of the white stone building was definitely a monastery and has recently been renovated. It comprises a living/dining room with fireplace, a professional chef’s kitchen and four double bedrooms, each with its own private ensuite bathroom. Another interesting element is that the four bedrooms are each off the stone porch. The porch in front of the bedrooms overlooks the green hills. The Church has an open plan mezzanine sleeping area with exposed oak beams and bathroom. The oldest part of the church, dating back to the 8th century, is a small stone building. It later became used as a sacristy and is today a comfortable living room. The surrounding land, on a hillside, is approximately one hectare from which there are peaceful views over the countryside. The property is located on a wonderful scenic plateau with great views and a lovely timber setting, the woods are mainly fine oak wood. From 750 BC this site has been used as a sacred place of community worship, the grounds are protected and the monastery is Grade 1 listed.
